Calvaire de Saint-Élie-de-Caxton

Located in the heart of Saint-Élie-de-Caxton, the Calvaire mountain overlooks the village and is marked by an illuminated cross at its summit. This site invites prayer, spirituality, or simply admiring the stunning views from the mountain top.
On a mountain about four arpents behind the church, a large cross was erected in 1895. In 1886, a Stations of the Cross path was built to help pedestrians easily climb the mountain. In terms of length, this path is an exact replica of the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem.
The Blessed Franciscan Father Frédéric Jansoone (Bon Père Frédéric) is credited with founding the Calvaire.
In spring 2011, the Ministry of Culture and Communications recognized the heritage value of the entire Calvaire site in Saint-Élie-de-Caxton, which includes the church, rectory, cemetery, and the mountain itself.
